Nazareth House is a residential care home situated on a leafy site on the outskirts of Dublin.  This project, which is phase 1 of an overall masterplan developed for the site by White Ink Architects, involved the replacement of an existing 1970’s 1-storey administrative entrance block with a 3-storey building to accommodate a 30-bed convent/residential care wing, administration facilities and communal resident facilities..

The extension provides a modern frontage to the existing building and gives the home a much needed presence along the Malahide Road. The design opens up the building to existing under-used landscaped courtyards, greatly enhancing the natural light into the building whilst providing a point of orientation and pleasant outlook.

Care was taken to ensure that the layout, interior finishes and colours used reflect the latest research on designing for dementia, mapping and the residents' needs.

“We set our architects a challenging brief, namely to create an extension to Nazareth House Dublin, while continuing to operate the nursing home,  to include 30 ensuite bedrooms,  a new entrance lobby, various additional amenities for residents (such as a "reminiscent  room") and visitors and  administration facilities. White Ink Architects embraced the ethos of the Sisters of Nazareth and placed the needs of our residents at the centre of their work, resulting in an imaginative, welcoming, modern building which has proved flexible and adaptable in use. The increased level of natural light, the feeling of bringing the gardens into the rooms and warm atmosphere in the design has liberated and uplifted the emotional and mental states of our nursing home residents and staff.”
