The first phase of the ‘Westminster Quarter’ development, this 8-storey building comprises 24 no. private apartments arranged over 7 floors above a ground floor retail unit. The luxury residences include studio, 1, 2 and 3-bed apartments and 2 exclusive duplex penthouses in central London’s most historic district, Westminster.

The original design, conceived by Darling Associates Architects and developed by Powell Dobson Architects, was based upon design principles specific to the local area, such as the use of brick and intricate detailing.  To compliment this and add a more contemporary aesthetic, bronze coloured metal cladding was introduced to the winter gardens and the penthouses.

White Ink Architects provided post-tender architectural services to McAleer & Rushe Contractors.  Our role was to ensure the tendered scheme met the necessary statutory, regulatory and sustainability requirements, whilst ensuring the original design intent was retained in the process of construction.

The main elevation to Great Peter Street has a grid-like structure, highlighted by an extruded cruciform detail along the centre lines and articulated by recessed brick panels to bedroom windows which add privacy internally and interest externally.

The top two storeys of the scheme are set back from the main building line and are occupied by the duplex penthouses. The setbacks minimise the impact of the building’s mass at street level but also enable the provision of private terraces which enhance the quality of the accommodation.
